As the calendar turns towards a new year, it's the perfect time to show your car some extra TLC. All those miles logged over the past 12 months have surely taken their toll. But fear not - a few hours spent with some basic tools can have your trusty steed shipshape for the road trips yet to come.
We call it the year-end maintenance checklist: a simple routine to prepare your ride and help catch any small issues before they become big, expensive problems down the line. Think of it as a holiday gift to your car - and to yourself as well, enjoying added peace of mind over the winter roads.
First up, address what's underneath the hood. Change the engine oil and filter to flush away dirt and contaminants. Inspect belts and hoses for cracks and replace them if needed. Check fluid levels for brake fluid, power steering, and coolant too. Rotate your tires to promote even wear and inflate them to the proper PSI.
Pop the hood to examine components more closely. Unplug spark plugs and inspect for corrosion or worn seals. Clean or replace as needed. Now is also a great time to change your air filter, ensuring your engine breathes freely. With fluids and filters refreshed, your car's internals will run at peak performance.
Next, peek beneath the vehicle. Check brake pads and rotors - if wear indicators are visible, it's pad change time. Examine suspension pieces and bushings for excessive play. Inspect brake lines and fuel lines for leaks or cracks too. A pro can grease your chassis for better protection against road salt and grime this winter.
Once satisfied up top and down below, shift focus inside the cabin. Vacuum or shampoo your carpets and seats for a fresh new feeling. Inspect wiper blades - streaky vision won't do. Test lights and signals; replace bulbs that have dimmed. Top off windshield washer fluid for those messy days ahead.
End your checklist with routine tune-up tasks. Change the spark plugs and ignition coils if it's been a while. Charge or replace your battery as needed. A consultation with your trusted mechanic can uncover any other concerns specific to your vehicle's odometer reading.
With a little DIY diligence now, you'll be rewarded with smooth sailing, literally, all through next year. Your car will cruise into 2023 in peak condition, so the open road always awaits - no breakdowns, no worries. Doesn't that sound like a great way to start the new year?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
